The Elizabeth Kostova Foundation is a nonprofit organization in public interest, founded in Sofia, Bulgaria, on May 24, 2007, with a mission to support Bulgarian writers and Bulgarian literature. The goals of the Elizabeth Kostova Foundation are to promote the teaching and professionalization of creative writing in Bulgaria; to encourage, challenge, and publish highly talented literary writers in Bulgaria; to create connections among Bulgarian, American, and British writers; to assist in the training of translators for contemporary Bulgarian literature; to facilitate the publication of Bulgarian writers in English; to nurture readership of Bulgarian writers in Bulgaria and abroad.

In January 2016, Elizabeth Kostova Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit organization registered as a 501(c)(3) legal entity, was incorporated in the State of New York, US. The Foundation was established to promote literary exchange between American and Bulgarian writers and to encourage the teaching and professionalization of creative writing. To achieve its goals, the Foundation has prepared a number of projects that aim to identify and encourage talented emerging writers, to help professionalize and promote them, and to diversify the reading culture in the United States by encouraging the translation of foreign works into English.
